Panic, Commotion as the Head of a Pig is Found Buried in Front of a Shop in Lagos (Shocking Photos)

The residents of a Lagos community have been given the shock of their lives after they made a startling discovery recently.
They were shocked to discover a pig's head buried in front of a shop.

According Instablog, an eyewitness with the alias "Rabidcuriousity ," revealed that the discovery was made around 11a.m on Monday, 28th of November, 2016, at Abesan estate, Ipaja, Lagos.

The shop was recently vacated by a woman said to be an Alhaja married to an Alfa.

According to the new occupant of the shop, a member of The Lord's Chosen church, she had a dream where she saw a big lizard trying to find a way into the shop but couldn't seem to get in.

She reportedly called for a prayer warrior to join them in prayers inside the shop, because she was feeling uneasy with it, and according to them, as the man stepped into the shop, he jumped over the spot in which the animal's head was buried.
And immediately told them there was something wrong with that particular point and they should dig it up.

The husaband of the lady, after searching fruitlessly for a bricklayer, decided to break the floor and dig it up by himself. .
According to him, the suspicious spot looked different from the others and could have suggested that the act was carried out not too long ago.

The neighbour to the former occupant, allegedly claimed that she was severely and severally attacked spiritually by her, but she countered her with prayers, which eventually drove her away and no one knows when she abandoned the shop.

Skydiver plummeted to Death in San Francisco

The mother of a skydiver who plummeted to his death with an instructor in a California vineyard said her teenage son was an adventurous spirit who was willing to try just about anything  including the jump that was on his bucket list of things to do in life.
Tyler Turner, 18, had a mild case of cerebral palsy and walked
with a crouched gait. His mother Francine  Turner said that didn't dampen his zest for life.

Tyler Turner had graduated from high school with honors and
had been bound for the University of California at Merced this
month to study biomedical engineering.

On Saturday, his mother drove Turner and his best friend to the
Parachute Center in Lodi, east of San Francisco, where she says they joined two other friends and sped through a safety
video Before going up in a plane, Tyler Turner knelt at the edge of the jumping area and said a quick prayer. He gave his mom a tight hug and told her he loved her.

He jumped while his mother waited on the ground, wondering
which one of the tiny dots in the air was her son.

Tyler Turner and the instructor died when they plunged together
to the ground after their shared parachute did not open.

Francine Turner said the instructor was found with his hand on
the lever for a backup parachute but it was never pulled.
San Joaquin County sheriff's officials have not identified the
instructor.

"One of the last things they wanted to do was go on a
skydiving trip they've been talking about," Turner said about her
son and his friends, who jumped safely. "I hate for any other
mother to go through this."

Turner said she paid $175 for her son's jump, which included a
video recording that is now in the hands of federal
investigators.

The four friends filled out paperwork but didn't finish watching
the safety video before they were hustled into gear, she said.
Turner said she was appalled that the center continued sending
people up to jump while she waited for word about her son.
She thought the center might halt operations.

"I'm out there waiting for my son to be recovered, for hours,
and they just kept jumping over my head," she said.
Bill Dause, owner of the Parachute Center, said the instructor
was a veteran who had about 700 previous jumps. Dause said
he sympathized but there was nothing he could do.

"It was just an accident," he told The Associated Press on Monday.

Dause told Sacramento television station KCRA on Saturday that
it appeared "something may have gone out of sequence in the
jump." He did not elaborate.

The wind and other conditions were perfect, he added.
In May, a small plane carrying 17 skydivers took off from the
center and landed upside-down after clipping a pickup truck.
People involved sustained minor cuts and scrapes.

In February, the Lodi News-Sentinel reported a solo skydiver
died after a parachute malfunction at the center. Further details
were not immediately available.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover funeral costs
for Tyler Turner.

EGYPTIAN army kills the Head of Sinai branch of Islamic state

The Egyptian military says it has killed the head of the Sinai
branch of so-called Islamic State (IS), along with dozens of its
fighters.

It said ABU DUAA AL-ANSARI was killed in a series of air strikes
on fighters of the Sinai Province – or Ansar Beit al-Maqdis –
group. The air strikes targeted jihadist strongholds near the town of El-Arish.

The Egyptian military said: "The raids left more than 45 terrorists killed, dozens of others injured and several arms caches destroyed."

Brig-Gen Mohammed Samir said in a posting on Facebook that Ansari was killed in an operation guided by "accurate intelligence".

Sinai Province is Egypt’s most active insurgent group and has
been linked to deadly attacks in Sinai and Cairo.

Breakings12 killed, 15 injured in rebel attack in India's Assam state

GAUHATI, India (AP) — At least 12 people were killed and 15
others injured Friday after rebels opened fire in a crowded
market in Assam state in India's remote northeast, officials
said.

Six rebels arrived in a motorized rickshaw and fired automatic
weapons and lobbed grenades in the crowded market in
Balajan, an area just outside the town of Kokrajhar in western
Assam, said top local police official L.R. Bishnoi.

He said that one gunman was killed by security forces and
troops were pursuing five others who fled. Several homes and
shops were badly damaged in the attack.

Police blamed a faction of the National Democratic Front of
Bodoland for the attack. The group has been fighting for an
independent homeland for the region's Bodo tribespeople for
decades. The Bodos are an indigenous tribe in Assam, making
up 10 percent of the state's 33 million people.

Friday's attack was the worst in the recent past, but the group
was blamed for the shooting deaths of more than 60 Muslim
settlers and Adivasi tribespeople in Assam in separate attacks
in 2014.

The rebels have been targeting communities they consider
outsiders, including Adivasis, whose ancestors migrated to
Assam more than 100 years ago to work on tea plantations —
as well as Muslims, accusing them and the federal government
of exploiting the region's wealth while neglecting the locals.

Dozens of rebel groups have been fighting the government and
sometimes each other for years in seven states in northeast
India. They demand greater regional autonomy or independent
homelands for the indigenous groups they represent.

At least 10,000 people, most of them civilians, have been killed
in Assam state alone in the last three decades.

Breaking :ISIS Name New Boko Haram leader

The Islamic State, better known as ISIS, has announced a new leader for the insurgent group, Boko Haram.
ISIS referred to Abu Musab al-Barnawi, who was previously spokesman for Boko Haram, as the new leader replacing Abubakar Shekau.
Mr. al-Barnawi is featured in the latest issue of an ISIS magazine, the BBC has reported.
The magazine makes no reference to Mr. Shekau.
The eccentric Mr. Shekau was last seen in a Boko Haram propaganda video in March 2015, one of many footages released in his years of leading a brutal campaign against the Nigerian state.
In one of the videos, Shekau pledged allegiance to ISIS, which was originally based in Syria and Iraq. ISIS has several offshoots now in other countries including Libya.
Mr. Shekau took over as Boko Haram leader after the group’s founder, Muhammad Yusuf, died in police custody in July 2009.
Boko Haram became more deadly and radicalized under his leadership.

Breakings:International Notorious Cyber Criminal Apprehended in Nigeria

The head of an international criminal network behind thousands of online frauds has been arrested in a joint operation by INTERPOL and the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
The 40-year-old Nigerian national, known as ‘Mike’, is believed to be behind scams totalling more than USD 60 million involving hundreds of victims worldwide.
In one case, a target was conned into paying out USD 15.4 million.
The network compromised email accounts of small to medium businesses around the world including in Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Romania, South Africa, Thailand and the US, with the financial victims mainly other companies dealing with these compromised accounts.
Heading a network of at least 40 individuals across Nigeria, Malaysia and South Africa which both provided malware and carried out the frauds, the alleged mastermind also had money laundering contacts in China, Europe and the US who provided bank account details for the illicit cash flow.
Following his arrest in Port Harcourt in southern Nigeria, a forensic examination of devices seized by the EFCC showed he had been involved in a range of criminal activities including business e-mail compromise (BEC) and romance scams.
The main two types of scam run by the 40-year-old targeted businesses were payment diversion fraud – where a supplier’s email would be compromised and fake messages would then be sent to the buyer with instructions for payment to a bank account under the criminal’s control – and ‘CEO fraud’.
In CEO fraud, the email account of a high-level executive is compromised and a request for a wire transfer is sent to another employee who has been identified as responsible for handling these requests. The money is then paid into a designated bank account held by the criminal.
Mike’ first came onto the law enforcement radar through a report provided to INTERPOL by Trend Micro, one of its strategic partners at the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore. This, combined with actionable analysis and intelligence from Fortinet Fortiguard Labs in 2015, enabled specialists at the INTERPOL Digital Crime Centre, including experts from Cyber Defense Institute based at the IGCI, and the EFCC to locate the suspect in Nigeria, resulting in his arrest in June.
Abdul Chukkol, Head of the EFCC’s Cybercrime Section said the transnational nature of business e-mail compromise makes it complex to crack, but the arrest sent a clear signal that Nigeria could not be considered a safe haven for criminals.
“For a long time we have said in order to be effective, the fight against cybercrime must rely on public-private partnerships and international cooperation,” said Mr Chukkol.
“The success of this operation is the result of close cooperation between INTERPOL and the EFCC, whose understanding of the Nigerian environment made it possible to disrupt the criminal organization’s network traversing many countries, targeting individuals and companies,” added Mr Chukkol.
Noboru Nakatani, Executive Director of the IGCI warned that BEC poses a significant and growing threat, with tens of thousands of companies victimized in recent years.
“The public, and especially businesses, need to be alert to this type of cyber-enabled fraud,” said Mr Nakatani.
“Basic security protocols such as two-factor authentication and verification by other means before making a money transfer are essential to reduce the risk of falling victim to these scams.
“It is exactly through this type of public and private sector cooperation that INTERPOL will continue to help member countries in bringing cybercriminals to justice no matter where they are,” concluded Mr Nakatani.
The 40-year-old, along with a 38-year-old also arrested by Nigerian authorities, faces charges including hacking, conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences. Both are currently on administrative bail as the investigation continues.

Wildlife officials captured alligator that killed 2 years old boy

Authorities say an alligator pulled Lane Graves into the water
June 14, despite the frantic efforts of his father. Lane’s body
was recovered the next day. An autopsy showed the boy died

The police are not taking it lightly with such activities of hoodlums in the state anymore.Governor Nasir El-Rufai had recently assured residents of the state of his administration’s
resolve to ensure that the activities of the group were not only curtailed but also totally eradicated.

The governor, who spoke when he visited a victim of the group,
Emmanuel Francis, at St. Gerard Hospital Kaduna, warned the
people of the state not to impose the tenets of their religions
on others.

“We implore everyone to do their duty to uphold peace and
security in Kaduna State. We should not allow differences in
faith to be a barrier to harmony or a cause for conflict. Nobody
can impose the tenet of his faith on another person,” Mr. El-
Rufai said.

“The decision to observe any religious activity is the prerogative
of the individual. Let us all remain vigilant and report any
suspicious activity to the security agencies.”

Mr. Francis, a Christian, was attacked last week by suspected
members of the group for eating during Ramadan.
A resident of Kakuri, Bala Awwal, has narrated how Mr. Francis
was attacked by the group.

Mr. Awwal recounted that the victim was attacked in Kakuri
area last Tuesday by members of the group while he was
having lunch.

He said the members of the groups protested that he was
eating at the time Muslims were observing their fast.

Also speaking, on Mal Mustapha, said many of the members of
the Yan Shara were residents of the same areas where the
activities had taken place.

“As a community leader, we keep telling people in the Mosque
and gathering to be cautious of these boys,” Mr. Mustapha
said.

“Nobody knows what their motives are or what they intend to
achieve with such activities. We are calling on the Kaduna state
Police and the government to in a matter of urgency hasten
taking action on this group’s activities in the state.”

A resident of Unguwan Dosa, Bello Sani, said he narrowly
escaped being lynched last week when the group attacked him
on his way from the mosque where he had gone to pray.

He said, “It happened after the last prayer of the day, Isha’a at
Unguwan Dosa. I was going home from the mosque in
Unguwan Dosa when I saw people running and coming my
way.

At first I thought it was a riot. Then one lady who was running
overtook me and was shouting run! run! run! the sweepers are
coming. I did not understand what she meant by sweepers
until I saw some shops close to me closing down and also
telling me to run.

“However, before I could run fast, one among them hit me with
a big stick on my back. I was able to jump in to a house close
to me forcing them to retreat.”

Describing the experience as “horrific,” Mr. Bello said he was
very scared because he did not know about the group until last
month a friend who lives in Tudun-Wada told hold him about it.

Egypt Air mishap:Smoke detected on EgyptAir flight before crash

The French aviation safety agency said that the EgyptAir A320 that crashed into the Mediterranean with 66 people aboard had transmitted automatic messages indicating smoke in the cabin.

"There were ACAR messages emitted by the plane indicating that there was smoke in the cabin shortly before data transmission broke off," a spokesman of France's Bureau of Investigations and Analysis told AFP news agency on Saturday.

ACAR, which stands for Aircraft Communications Addressing and
Reporting System, is a digital system that transmits short messages between aircraft and ground stations.

The spokesman said it was "far too soon to interpret and understand the cause of Thursday's accident as long as we have not found the wreckage or the flight data recorders."

Flight data, as published on The Aviation Herald website, suggested that smoke alarms were set off on EgyptAir Flight 804 minutes before it crashed.

The Aviation Herald website, which tracks the aviation industry, said it received information that smoke alarms went off in the toilets of the Airbus A320 before the crash.

Pacquiao Wins Philippines Senate Seat After Pulling 16m Votes

Pacquiao Wins Philippines Senate Seat After Pulling 16m Votes

Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao moved a step closer to achieving his dream of becoming president of the Philippines after winning a Senate seat on Thursday.

At the proclamation ceremony, an elections commissioner introduced Pacquiao as the ‘people's champion’ and called out his name in the same
slow style with which he used to be greeted in the ring prior to his world title bouts.

The Filipino super featherweight garnered more than 16million votes, make him the seventh most popular of the 12 new members of the senate, a
traditional springboard to the presidency. Earlier this year, he said that he planned to retire from boxing to become a full-time politician.

Asked if his next target is the presidency, Pacquiao smiled and said ‘nothing, nothing, nothing’ as he left his for the induction ceremony. Considered a hero in the Asian country, which grinds to a halt during his
televised fights to watch him box,Pacquiao has indicated in the past he would consider a run for the presidency. But he has often tried to ditch the topic, saying he was too young.

The Philippine constitution requires presidential candidates to be at least 40 years old, meaning Pacquiao, at 37, would be eligible to run in the next
election in 2022.

He has represented southern Sarangani province in the House of Representatives since May 2010, but he has been criticised for rarely showing up for legislative duties due to his preoccupation with boxing and is regarded as a political lightweight.

He told reporters he was still thinking whether to participate in the Olympics in August because he might be criticised again for being absent from the Senate. “I need to ask if the Filipino people will
allow me to participate in the Olympics,” he said.

Troops Apprehends Suspected Militants after oil facilities attack

Nigeria Troops in Niger Delta region of the country has apprehended  several militant in connection with the attacks on oil facilities that affected production. A senior military source told AFP on Monday.

"We made some arrests over the weekend. They were picked up around scenes of recent attacks in the Niger delta," said the source, from the joint task force involved in security in the region.

"It will be pre-emptive at this stage to conclude that the suspects are the militants that bombed the oil pipelines and installations until after investigation," the source added.

Militants seeking a fairer share of revenue for locals in the oil-rich southern delta have resumed attacks on oil facilities, creating a fresh security headache for President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) group claimed responsibility for a recent attack on an offshore facility operated by US energy group Chevron and the Anglo-Dutch oil giant Shell.
That saw output slump from about 1.9 million barrels per day (bpd) to under 1.7 million bpd -- the lowest since 1994 -- with suggestions pipeline sabotage and leaks has cut production further.

The NDA has vowed to continue with the attacks and has warned oil firms to leave the region.
The Niger delta was plagued in the 2000s by rebels who attacked oil pipelines and kidnapped workers, wreaking havoc on production until a 2009 government amnesty.

Analysts attribute the renewed unrest to the winding down of the amnesty programme for former oil rebels and the arrest of a prominent former militant commander on corruption charges.

In continuation of Operation CRACKDOWN deep inside Sambisa forest, troops have arrested one of the declared wanted Boko Haram terrorists leaders, and also conducted patrols and clearance operations within the theatre of operations.

At about 1.35pm yesterday troops of 143 Battalion arrested one Sulaiman Umaru, a suspected Boko Haram terrorists group member whose photograph is on the poster containing the photographs of the 100 Boko Haram terrorists declared wanted. He has since been moved to 28 Task Force Brigade Headquarters for further investigation.

Troops of 21 Brigade have continued with the clearance operations at Yerimari, while troops of 22 Task Force Brigade Garrison have also embarked on patrols along Dikwa–Mafa-Maiduguri road. The patrol was aimed at picketing the road to keep it safe and open.

Similarly, the same unit in conjunction with some elements of 112 Task Force Battalion conducted a fighting patrol along Dikwa-Gulumba Gana road. The team had a fierce fire fight with some Boko Haram terrorists elements in which the troops killed quite a number of the Boko Haram terrorists.

Unfortunately, while on their way back, the team ran into an
Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Antul, a village south east of Dikwa, in which 7 soldiers and 4 Civilian JTF accompanying them sustained injuries. The injured soldiers and their civilian counterparts have been evacuated to 7 Division Hospital and Medical Services Maiduguri. However, the patrol killed 2 Boko Haram terrorists and recovered 2 AK-47 rifles from them.

The patrol team had earlier intercepted 31 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), including women and children coming from Sunabaya, Gumule, Garno and Mane-Gana villages.
During preliminary investigations along with the vigilantes, one of the IDPs, Abacha Bulama, a native of Mane-Gana village, was found to be in possession of the sum of One Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira($9500).

Although he claimed to be a businessman, his possession of such large amount of money arose suspicion.
While Bulama has been detained for further investigation, other IDPs have been handed over to Dikwa IDP Camp Manager for screening and further humanitarian assistance.

On their part, troops of 254 Task Force Battalion, 25 Task Force Brigade have moved to Ngalimeri and shelled Boko Haram terrorists hideouts at Budumairi, Goneri Baleni, Mallam Maitari, Malemiri and Gombori. Although there were no signs of the Boko Haram in the area as they have all fled, however, 35 persons were rescued, screened and rehabilitated at Damboa IDP camp. The troops also arrested 2 suspected Boko Haram terrorists with Dane Guns.

In a related development, troops of 192 Battalion, 26 Task Force Brigade also carried out clearance operations at Guduf Buba, Yagwa, Gamude, Kwatara Kasa and Kwatara Tsakiya villages. It was observed that at Kwatara Tsakiya, the terrorists have neatly removed the roofing of the dispensary and other buildings possibly to cart away later.
Apart of the formations and units mentioned above, quite a number of them have maintained blocking positions to prevent

Boko Haram terrorists escaping from Operation CRACKDOWN and aerial bombardment by the Nigerian Air Force, while other troops carry out raids, cordon and searches in suspected Boko Haram terrorists hideouts.

Due to increased security, the theatre is witnessing increased humanitarian activities by various government and non-governmental agencies.

The attack in the city centre bore the hallmark of the jihadist group, Boko Haram, which has been waging an insurgency in the north for seven years.

It was the second suicide bombing attack in 12 hours. On Wednesday, troops of 7 Division Garrison Command of the Nigerian Army, in conjunction with the Civilian JTF maintaining security and vigilance, frustrated a suicide bombing of Sulaimanti, in the outskirts of Maiduguri city.

The terrorist carrying Improvised Explosive Device (IED), attempted to attack worshippers at Sulaimanti mosque during early morning prayer.
He was however prevented from gaining access to the mosque. Five civilians sustained injuries during the failed attempt.

Irate Youth raze MP's houses over unfulfilled Electoral Promises

FG may increase petrol price soon — Marketers

The Federal Government may soon effect an upward review
in the pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly
known as petrol, oil marketers have said, attributing this to
the recent increase in the cost of crude oil at the
international market.

Crude oil price had fallen below $30 per barrel earlier this
year, but as of May 2, 2016, the commodity’s cost rose to
$45.83, according to data obtained from the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation on Saturday in Abuja.

The oil marketers also told our correspondent that the
current challenge they faced in the industry was how to
sustain the improvement in the supply of petrol across the
country.

They said they had started importing petrol as many oil
majors and a few independent dealers were accessing the
United States dollars, as promised by the Minister of State
for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

The Corporate Affairs Manager, Nipco Plc, a renowned oil
marketing firm, Mr. Lawal Taofeeq, stated that the petrol
subsidy issue must be managed properly by the
government in order to ensure adequate sustenance of the
present improvement in fuel supply across the country.

He noted that the marginal rise in the price of crude oil
could force the government to review the pump price of
petrol upwards, particularly should the government insist on
not paying petrol subsidy to oil marketers.

“The government has been using the price modulation
technique, and as crude oil price is going up, it will be
adjusting the pump price of petrol. Any moment from now,
there may be an upward review in the pump price of petrol
to take care of the rise in the price of crude oil in the
international market.”

The Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of
Nigeria, Mr. Obafemi Olawore, stated that the NNPC had
ensured that petrol dealers would get the product, adding
that many marketers had also started importing the product.

On the measures so far put in place by oil marketers to
stabilise and sustain supply, Olawore said, “That is the
challenge all of us face now. The sustenance is now the
issue but we will try to sustain it.”

Niger Delta militant blow up Chevron oil facility

Militants in the Niger Delta yesterday blew up the Chevron Valve
Platform located on the high sea near Escravos in Warri, Delta
State in a renewed attack on oil installations in the country.

• Group threatens to take fight to Lagos, Abuja
• Fear grips local oil firms over falling crude prices
• Operators list ways to cushion economic downturn
• Nigeria’s growth to decline to 2.2 per cent

Militants in the Niger Delta yesterday blew up the Chevron Valve
Platform located on the high sea near Escravos in Warri, Delta
State in a renewed attack on oil installations in the country.
The attack is another setback to the nation’s oil and gas
production sector, even as the Shell Petroleum Development
Company (SPDC) is still working to restore the Forcados export
terminals after a similar attack two months ago.

Nigerian Navy spokesperson, Chris Ezekobe, who confirmed the
incident yesterday, said the attack occurred about 40 nautical
miles from the Escravos terminal, around the city of Warri.
Ezekobe said he was yet to know which militant group was
responsible and there were no immediate details of any
casualties.

The development may further reduce the nation’s oil and gas
output. But Chevron is yet to confirm if production has been
halted at Escravos and how much of the process is affected.
A source at Chevron who confirmed the attack said that the
company is working on a public statement, which was not
ready as at press time. It was learnt that the facility was completely destroyed with the use of a dynamite.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), a new militant group, has
claimed responsibility for the attack, warning that the
deployment of soldiers in the region would not deter them from
carrying out further attacks.

NDA threatened not to relent until it cripples the nation’s
economy.
A statement by the group’s spokesman, Madoch Agbinibo, noted: “The high command of the Niger Delta Avengers wants
to use this medium to thank Strike Team 6 for successfully
blowing up the Chevron Valve Platform. And we are ready to
protect the Niger Delta people.

“This is what we promised the Nigerian government. Since they
refused to listen to us we are going to zero the economy of the
country.“As for zeroing the Nigerian economy, the Niger Delta Avengers is done with the Niger Delta major oil installations. Now, we are taking the fight out of the creeks of the Niger Delta. We are taking it to Abuja and Lagos now,” he said.

Agbinibo continued: “We want to pass this message to the all
international oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that the
Nigeria military cannot protect their facilities. They should talk to the Federal Government to meet our demands else more
mishap will befall their installations.”

The group had earlier claimed responsibility for the attack on
the Forcados 48-inch Export Pipeline two months ago.
An attack was launched early this year on Escravos Lagos
Pipeline System (ELPS) connected to Chevron Nigeria Limited’s
gas network at Escravos. This negatively impacted gas supply
to some critical power projects.

The Federal Ministry of Power said the attack cut off the supply
of 160 million metres standard cubic feet per day (MMSCD) of
gas to operators of electricity generation facilities and a cut in
power supply from the affected power plants.

Meanwhile, indigenous companies operating within the Nigerian
petroleum economy yesterday raised the alarm over the
uncertainty surrounding the international crude oil prices which
has led to the deferment of investment plans or outright
cancellation of capital projects.
Their fear was based on the fact that the local content
capabilities that have been built in the industry over the years
may be in danger of being eroded if the companies do not
survive the downturn.

This is further compounded by the expectations of the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) which has projected that
growth in Nigeria and other oil-exporting countries would decline to 2.2 per cent this year.

Operators stressed the need to reduce cost of operations and
projects through local capacity development, indigenous
working assets acquisitions, developing local expertise, low
maintenance and reduction of operational costs of existing assets.

According to the operators at the content workshop with the
theme “Local Content Implementation in the Nigerian Oil and
Gas Industry: A Cost Reduction Strategy,” organised by the
Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), there
should be cost-effective implementation of projects and
utilisation of local resources to reduce overall cost.
They said there should be a policy direction to focus on
sustainability of Nigerian local capacity to survive the declining
crude oil prices.

At the event, Chairman of PETAN, Mazi Bank-Anthony
Okoroafor, stressed the need for the industry to be placed on
existing in-country capacity instead of patronage, adding that
Nigeria should actively pursue reserves and production growth,
which he said, has been on the decline.

Okoroafor stressed leveraging proven Nigerian companies and
in-country capacity building, adding that proper implementation
of the Nigerian oil and gas industry content development would
significantly drive down the cost of doing business in the
industry and cushion the effects of the low prices.

He stated: “The industry has operated under the Local Content
Act regime for six years now and there is the need to take a
closer look at the implementation strategy to ensure it is
delivering the desired value to various industry stakeholders in
particular and the Nigerian populace in general. Proper
implementation of local content will lead to massive economic
transformation of our great nation.”

Chairman, PETAN Conference Committee, Ranti Omole, stated
that based on the belief of indigenous companies, the
association is partnering to reduce cost of operations and
projects in Nigeria through increased local patronage.

He said: “The industry has been undergoing challenges and
facing turbulent period for the past two years due to low prices
of crude oil and low demand. This has resulted in severe
adverse consequences in the industry as well as on the
economy of many oil-producing nations including our country.

“This has led major players in the industry to rationalise their
operations, seek efficiencies and cost-saving measures to
ensure profitability and survival of their businesses.”
Acting Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development and
Monitoring Board, Daziba Obah, said with the right support and
environment, indigenous companies were best positioned to
provide services at lower cost without compromising
standards.

Obah added that there was an opportunity to leverage the low
value of the naira to source services, technology and solutions
locally at much cheaper cost.
He noted that there would be much more cost-savings if
operators develop increased project management capabilities,
stressing: “Operators will save costs by optimising existing
facilities and improving maintenance efficiencies.”

Dwelling on the role of the Federal Government to help save
indigenous companies from the pangs of crude oil prices,
former Chairman of PETAN, Emeka Ene, said that there was the
need to develop the steel sector for local production of steel
billets, coils and plate.

Ene added that government should accelerate gas infrastructure
along gas corridors to ease the availability of gas in oil and gas
parks, oil and gas free zones and other manufacturing locations
supporting oil and gas activities.
“There is the need to engage relevant agencies in foster cordial
and seamless working relationship with respect to expatriate
quota and issuance of work permit.
“There should also be a periodic industry-wide capacity audit of
local companies to establish current capacities and embark on
gap closure interventions. Research and development clusters
should be encouraged to promote the development of home-
grown technology,” he said.

According to the IMF’s April 2016 regional outlook report,
economic activities in sub-Saharan Africa have weakened
markedly, with growth for the region as a whole, falling 3.5
percent in 2015, the lowest in 15 years.
Specifically, the IMF expects the economy to slow further in

Angola, given, among other factors, limited foreign exchange
supply and lower levels of public spending, and in Nigeria as
the adverse impact of lower oil prices is compounded by
disruptions to private sector activities through exchange rate
restrictions.

The report stated: “In view of these trends, governments should
consider a set of policy options tailoring the urgency of
adjustment to the extent of domestic vulnerabilities.
“Commodity prices have fallen sharply and, for energy prices, at
an unprecedented pace. Oil and other commodity exporters are
adjusting, but given the extent of the shock they are facing,
policies are currently ‘behind the curve.’ ’’

Teen shoot himself in head while taking selfie

Indian teenager has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while posing for a selfie with his father’s gun.
Ramandeep Singh, 15, was posing for a photograph with his elder sister on Friday night when he pulled the gun’s trigger instead of clicking the photograph. He was taken to a private hospital in Ludhiana, Punjab after neighbours heard the gunshot and alerted his parents, who were not home at the time. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday. The gun, a .32-calibre pistol licensed to Ramandeep’s father Gurkirpal Singh, was usually kept in a wardrobe in the house, according to police chief Manoj Kumar.
"The boy's father and family said that he was trying to take a selfish with his gun, "said Mr kumal
The incident is the latest of several deaths in India to result from taking a selfie, a craze that has been fuelled by Bollywood celebrities and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.
Around half of the 27 recorded deaths worldwide resulting from self-taken photographs took place in India last year.
So far this year, a man in Kerala was gored by an irate elephant while posing for a selfie at a temple in April, and a teenager in Chennai was killed by a train after posing near railway tracks.
Indians have also been killed falling out of boats, off cliffs and into canals in recent months.

Mumbai has set up 16 “no selfie zones” at popular but dangerous locations after a tragic accident claimed two lives in January.
India overtook the US this year to become the world’s second-largest smartphone market, with 220 million users, behind only China.

India’s gun laws allow citizens to buy firearms with a government-issued licence, although the process is expensive and difficult. There are six million registered guns in India, and up to an estimated 40 million illegal firearms.

Man City suffered 4-2 defeat at Southampton

Manchester City FC starlet Kelechi Iheanacho scored twice as the UCL semi-finals at suffered a 4-2 defeat at Southampton.

A Sadio Mane hat-trick inspired Southampton to a 4-2 Barclays
Premier League at St Mary's Stadium that hit Manchester City’s
hopes of confirming a top-four spot.

Manuel Pellegrini, ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions
League semi-final trip to Real Madrid, made a number of first-
team changes. Sergio Aguero, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy and
Fernando watched the entire game from the bench, while Kevin
De Bruyne was left out.

Southampton sensed the chance of an upset and deservedly
took the lead through Shane Long, before Mane scored a fine
effort three minutes later to cap their first-half dominance.
Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed a lifeline just before the break and
City responded well early in the second half, but Mane bundled
the ball home after a scramble in the penalty area to restore
Saints' two-goal lead before completing his treble with a good
low finish 10 minutes later.

Iheanacho bent in a fine consolation, but Southampton move
to within two points of the top six, while City, who host third-
placed Arsenal next Sunday, must continue to look over their
shoulders towards Manchester United, who could close to
within a point of fourth if they win their match in hand.

Southampton set about pressing Pellegrini's much-changed
line-up from the outset, with Mane testing Joe Hart from 25
yards out with just two minutes on the clock.
Long rippled the side-netting from distance and Raheem
Sterling shot straight at Fraser Forster from 10 yards after
Iheanacho had robbed Virgil van Dijk and teed up the winger.
That stop proved pivotal as Southampton took the lead
midway through the half. Cuco Martina's ball over the top was
hooked towards the penalty spot by Dusan Tadic, and Long
arrived ahead of Nicolas Otamendi to prod low past Hart.

Southampton were in complete control and doubled their lead
three minutes later with an outstanding counter-attack goal.
Victor Wanyama released Tadic down the right, and his
perfectly weighted through-ball between City's defenders
allowed Mane to sweep low past Hart.
City had barely mustered a threat but grabbed a lifeline a
minute before half-time, as Iheanacho nodded past Forster
from close range after Southampton had failed to clear Samir
Nasri's low cross.
Iheanacho was City's brightest player and brought another low
save from Forster early in the second half after combining well
with Wilfried Bony on the edge of the area.
City’s hopes of a recovery were dealt a blow on 57 minutes as

Mane restored Southampton's two-goal cushion, reacting
quickest at the far post after Hart had deflected Van Dijk's
header on the bar.
Hart then tipped Van Dijk's overhead kick just over the
crossbar but could do nothing to deny Mane his hat-trick. The
Saints winger bagged his 10th league goal of the season as
he raced on to Tadic's low pass before slotting into the corner
at the near post.
Iheanacho curled a brilliant strike beyond Forster in the closing
stages but City could find no further response.

Nigeria Army vows to crush Fulani herdsmen like Boko Haram

In the light of the recent killings by Fulani herdsmen across several parts of the country, the Nigerian military has vowed to deal with the herdsmen the same way it treated the Boko Haram insurgency,

Niger Delta militancy and other acts of criminality. The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, gave the assurance yesterday in response to reporters' inquiries into the gruesome murder of over 40 farmers of Ukpabi Nembe Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area in Enugu State by the suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Abubakar said the military would collaborate with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure the security of lives and properties in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives following the public outrage that greeted the
massacre.
He said that the security threat and challenge posed by the suspected killer herdsmen was a top priority for the authorities, and promised that those behind the dastardly acts would be apprehended.

Man stabbed lover to death over refusal to accept marriage proposal

David Ogundele, a 45-year old engineer stabbed an MTN worker, Tosin Ashinwo, 30, to death last sunday, after he had showed up uninvited, and had been asked to leave. He also stabbed the woman's mother, though she managed to survive the brutal attack.Punch reports that Tosin who worked as a customer care representative for MTN met David after she had been transferred to Kwara State from Kano.According to the dead woman's brother, David instantly took to her and made several attempts to win her over, but she was not interested in his overtures, especially after she learnt that he already had a wife.

This did not stop David who somehow got the contact of Tosin's siblings and began to ask them them for assistance in his bid to win their sister's heart. One of such messages, as revealed by the woman's brother reads;
“Your sister is giving me a serious headache. I don’t know what to do. I love her so much but… Join me in prayers that God should soften her heart.”
He also got her mother's number, with a view to getting Tosin to love him.
Punch reports that the suspected became so frustrated after he threw a birthday party for her and she refused to show up, and also refused his car gift.
David, who is thought to have felt really embarrassed by Tosin's refusal to show up, then went in search of the woman, held a knife to her throat, forcefully took her ATM card, and withdrew money from her account.
A week afterwards, David visited her home uninvited and met Oluwatosin and her mother. He was asked to leave, and an argument ensued. He reportedly went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed the women multiple times. Thinking they had both died, he left them in the room, and went away.
The daughter bled to death, but the older woman was able to get help as she was quickly rushed to a hospital in Iliron where a surgery was performed on her.
In a conversation with a correspondent on Whatsapp, the alleged killer simply rationalised his act by saying “I was bewitched.”
Asked if Oluwatosin provoked him, he said, “It is well. What can I do now? I was bewitched. How would I attack a lady I claim to love?”
He was asked why he stabbed Oluwatosin’s mother too, he denied it and simply said, “Never”. When told that the woman survived, he said, “Thank God for her life.”
The case was initially reported at the F Division of the Kwara State Police Command, which is located few metres away from where Oluwatosin lived.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed that the police are on the trail of the suspect who is still successfully evading the police.
