Man stabbed lover to death over refusal to accept marriage proposal

David Ogundele, a 45-year old engineer stabbed an MTN worker, Tosin Ashinwo, 30, to death last sunday, after he had showed up uninvited, and had been asked to leave. He also stabbed the woman's mother, though she managed to survive the brutal attack.Punch reports that Tosin who worked as a customer care representative for MTN met David after she had been transferred to Kwara State from Kano.According to the dead woman's brother, David instantly took to her and made several attempts to win her over, but she was not interested in his overtures, especially after she learnt that he already had a wife.

This did not stop David who somehow got the contact of Tosin's siblings and began to ask them them for assistance in his bid to win their sister's heart. One of such messages, as revealed by the woman's brother reads;
“Your sister is giving me a serious headache. I don’t know what to do. I love her so much but… Join me in prayers that God should soften her heart.”
He also got her mother's number, with a view to getting Tosin to love him.
Punch reports that the suspected became so frustrated after he threw a birthday party for her and she refused to show up, and also refused his car gift.
David, who is thought to have felt really embarrassed by Tosin's refusal to show up, then went in search of the woman, held a knife to her throat, forcefully took her ATM card, and withdrew money from her account.
A week afterwards, David visited her home uninvited and met Oluwatosin and her mother. He was asked to leave, and an argument ensued. He reportedly went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed the women multiple times. Thinking they had both died, he left them in the room, and went away.
The daughter bled to death, but the older woman was able to get help as she was quickly rushed to a hospital in Iliron where a surgery was performed on her.
In a conversation with a correspondent on Whatsapp, the alleged killer simply rationalised his act by saying “I was bewitched.”
Asked if Oluwatosin provoked him, he said, “It is well. What can I do now? I was bewitched. How would I attack a lady I claim to love?”
He was asked why he stabbed Oluwatosin’s mother too, he denied it and simply said, “Never”. When told that the woman survived, he said, “Thank God for her life.”
The case was initially reported at the F Division of the Kwara State Police Command, which is located few metres away from where Oluwatosin lived.
The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed that the police are on the trail of the suspect who is still successfully evading the police.

Breaking : Oba of Benin is Dead

The Edo State Government has issued the statement below announcing the death of the Oba of Benin.
The statement did not say when and how the monarch died.
Read full statement below.
“Our hearts are heavy, laden with pains and grief, at the announcement of the passing on to glory of Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa of Benin, our highly revered Oba, a distinguished Edo numero uno, an accomplished Nigerian, a seasoned bureaucrat, quintessential unifier, unique personage and exemplary Omo N’Oba, whose reign brought distinction, immense class, finesse and integrity to traditional institution in Edo state and the country at large.
“His carriage comes with an élan that was peculiar with the reverence of royalty. His uncommon courage was symbolic of the can-do spirit of the Edo mind. His unity of purpose was not in doubt even as he used his revered position to promote constructive engagement amongst all shades of opinion and culture in Edo state.
“As a thorough-bred bureaucrat, rising to the pinnacle of his career as a Federal Permanent Secretary, he understood the dynamics and intricacies of governance. He was the alternative voice to the many voiceless in our society, calling government attention to issues of development and transparent governance, without minding whose ox is gored. He was brave, fearless, punchy and instructive in his verbal and written messages.
“To us at the Edo state Government, he was our strongest supporter; both in his uncommon faith in our ability and his readiness to offer uncommon advice to sharpen public discourse in our shared commitment to transform Edo state. It gladdens our heart, therefore, that our revered Oba was alive to witness the positive transformation of Edo state under his reign, and for standing with us through thick and thin in the course of making the Edo economy a treasure to behold. Being part of that eloquent history of transformation before his reunion with his ancestors gives us further reassurance that he will occupy a special pride of place in the hereafter.
“We are enveloped with a deep sense of nostalgia that our great Oba, a great-grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle and iconoclastic royal father of exemplary carriage and conduct, who sustained the dignity of the average Edo mind, has joined his ancestors. We are, however, encouraged by the fact that another great son of the Great Benin Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Edaiken N’Uselu, Crown Prince Eheneden Erediauwa, who is already showing manifest quintessential attributes of his great father, will step into his father’s big shoes.
“Edo people will miss our iconoclastic royal father of the great Benin Kingdom. Nigerians and Nigeria will miss this great exemplar of a Royal Father, an Oba of distinction and integrity. Adieu until we meet to part no more.
“Oba gha to kpere, ise.”

First Bank Plan to Sack 1000 Staff

FBN Holdings Plc, the parent company of First Bank Nigeria Limited, is planning to cut about 1000 jobs and focus less on providing loans to the oil industry in a bid to reverse the 2015 financial year’s 82 per cent slump in profit.
The lender expects to boost its return on equity, a key measure of profitability, to between 11 per cent and 14 per cent in 2016 from last year’s “really bad” figure of three per cent, according to the Chief Executive Officer of First Bank of Nigeria Limited, FBN’s main subsidiary, Mr. Adesola Adeduntan.
He said the company was also targeting a cost-to-income ratio of 55 per cent in two years time from 59 per cent, Bloomberg reported.
“ROE will be much better than last year,” Adeduntan said in a telephone interview from Lagos on Wednesday.
“At a minimum, we should triple it. We do not shy away from taking difficult decisions. We used to have above 8,000 people. We’ll push it down, gradually to 7,000,” he added.
Its net profit fell to N15bn ($76m) from N84bn in 2014, as impairments soared and the economy slowed amid a crash in the price of crude, the biggest source of Federal Government revenue and export earnings.

Growth decelerated to 2.8 per cent in 2015, the lowest level since 1999, and may worsen to 2.3 per cent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund.
First Bank’s non-performing loans ratio stood at 22 per cent at the end of March, compared with 3.8 per cent a year earlier. Reducing that figure is the “number one priority,” said Adeduntan.
He said the bank would do that by reducing the proportion of its lending to the oil and gas sector, currently at about 39 per cent of total loans, and focusing more on blue-chip companies in other industries.

Adeduntan ruled out any equity raising this year, saying the bank’s capital adequacy ratio of 17.2 per cent was enough of a buffer and above the Central Bank of Nigeria’s minimum requirement of 15 per cent.
It would still be adequate if the floor is raised to 16 per cent in July for Systemically Important Institutions, including First Bank.
“We continuously evaluate it and the position now is that there’s no need for external capital,” Adeduntan, 46, who became the CEO in January after joining First Bank as chief financial officer in mid-2014, said.
“We generate enough internal capital,” he said. FBN’s shares rose by 5.3 per cent to N3.57 on Wednesday. They are, however, still down 30 per cent this year, more than the Nigerian Stock Exchange All Share Index’s drop of 13 per cent.

The bank’s valuation lags that of its main competitors such as Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc. Its stock trades at 0.22 times book value, or the theoretical price that shareholders will get if all assets are sold and liabilities paid off. That compares with 1.18 times for GTBank and 0.62 for Zenith.
“The market has over-corrected,” Adeduntan said, adding, “It’s priced in all the negative information. For us, it can only go up.”

Fuel Scarcity :Tips on mitigating Car fuel consumption

http://garbyanchor.blogspot.com/2016/04/fuel-scarcity.html
As Nigerians grapple with one of the nation’s most devastating episodes of fuel scarcity, there is need for motorists to understand how to conserve and manage the little fuel they have.
A review of vehicle manuals point to tips that can help lower fuel consumption and save cost.

Below are top five methods.
1. The viscosity grade of engine oil
The quality of engine oil one uses in his car is an important factor on how cars consume fuel.
Viscosity, which is the state of being thick, sticky, and semi-fluid due to internal friction of the car engine, does also determine fuel consumption.
If one uses an engine oil that is not the recommended type for his car or of less grade, at certain temperature, the engine pistons and crankshafts move less freely and add more loads to the engine and eventually consumes more fuel.

2. Adulterated Fuel
Due to anxiety and lack of time to spend a whole day in filling station queues, most Nigerians patronize black market fuel, often adulterated by sellers.
Adulterated fuel doesn’t burn properly and requires copious amount to move the car. That will lead to unprecedented fuel consumption.

3. Driving with Air Conditioner (AC) below 80KM/H
Most Nigerians do not know that driving with the air conditioner on, at a speed below 80KM/H adds an extra load to the engine, hence increases the fuel consumption of the vehicle. If you drive above 100KM/H, you are likely to consume less fuel, research has shown.

4. Expired or poorly inflated tyres
Vehicle tyres have four major functions which include supporting vehicle weight, transferring traction and braking forces on road surface and absorbing road shocks.
If tyres are worn out or poorly inflated, they lost their grip or traction, hence increase resistance which adds more load to engine and cause fuel consumption.
Always check your tyres and make sure they are in good shape.

5. Leakage in Exhaust
Leakages in exhaust ports or manifold affect the combustion process of a vehicle, hence improper emission of fuel that leads to high consumption. This will also slow the engine performance and even cause damage.

Eleven Shot Dead In Cape Verde, Including Two Spanish Citizens

http://garbyanchor.blogspot.com/2016/04/eleven-shot-dead-in-cape-verde.html
Eleven men were shot dead in Cape Verde on Tuesday, including eight soldiers, a local civilian and two Spanish citizens, the minister of Internal Administration for the archipelago off the African coast said in a statement.
The men were killed at a telecommunications site at Monte Tchota, a forested area on Santiago island about 27 km (17 miles) north of the capital, Praia, Minister Paulo Rocha said.
"A soldier assigned to the military team itself is missing, and there are strong indications that he was responsible in the events," said Rocha, adding that the victims were 20 to 51 years old.
Rocha said it was assumed personal motivations were behind the killings, ruling out an attack against the government, and called for calm.
The Spaniards were telecommunications technicians working at the site and the local civilian was a co-worker, the minister said.
The minister said there were no indications of links to drug trafficking.
Cape Verde's battle against gangs smuggling Latin American cocaine to Europe has led to a series of reprisal shootings. The former Portuguese colony is an Atlantic Ocean archipelago of 500,000 people off the northwestern coast of Africa.
Nine rifles were taken but were later recovered in a vehicle in Praia's Cittadella neighborhood, Rocha said.

Nigeria vows to compel public officers to justify wealths

In order to curb corruption and embezzlement of public funds, the Nigerian government has said that henceforth politicians and other public office holders would be required to justify their wealth.
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the declaration on Saturday in Lagos during a town hall meeting organized by the United Action for Change (UAC).
Mr. Osinbajo promised that he and President Muhammadu Buhari would lead by example by presenting details of their bank accounts and assets owned at the end of their tenure to convince Nigerians they did not abuse their positions to acquire illegal wealth.
“The era of people becoming emergency billionaires is gone,” Mr Osinbajo, a professor of Law told the audience at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, venue of the meeting.
“Anybody who can’t explain his wealth must be brought to account. Everyone who has served in public office must account for what they own. This is the change we want Nigerians to support,” he said.
He said the dream of the Buhari administration was to create a “country where integrity is our national culture.”
Mr Osinbajo urged Nigerians to be more patient with the administration, saying the change mantra of the All Progressives Party-led government would not be reduced to mere slogan.
He added that government would do everything within its power to deliver the change it promised Nigerians.

Ghastly Motor Accident at Nigeria Border town of Badagry

No fewer than 10 passengers have been killed, while 12 others were severely burnt after a Mazda car collided with a loaded commercial bus at the Iya-Afin bus stop, in the Badagry area of Lagos.
While the commercial bus, with number plate, LAR 279 DK,was heading inwards Badagry, the Mazda, with number plate, KJA 6454 XF, was going in the opposite direction.

The commercial bus driver was reported to have driven against the traffic to evade customs officers who were trailing him in their patrol van.
The two vehicles were said to have had a collision in the process.
As injured passengers made to extricate themselves from the wreckage, jerrycans of fuel tucked in the booth of the Mazda reportedly triggered an explosion.
While 10 of the passengers were burnt to death, 12survivors were said to be on a watch list due to the severe burns they sustained.
Our correspondents gathered that rescue agents from the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Fire Service and the Badagry Police Division responded to the emergency.
The survivors were said to have been rushed to the Badagry General Hospital, while the corpses were deposited in the hospital’s morgue.
A resident, Seun Adebayo, said the incident happened around 8pm on Monday, adding that a pregnant woman and a teenage boy, identified as Mustapha, survived the crash.
He said Mustapha was inside the commercial bus and had gone to buy some goods.
He said, “The incident happened around 8pm. The bus, coming from Badagry veered into the path of the car heading towards Seme. The bus driver was trying to evade arrest because customs officers were on the road. The two vehicles collided in the process and went up in flames. A
friend counted seven burnt corpses.
“A pregnant woman and a trader, Mustapha, were lucky to have escaped. They live around here, but their families want privacy for them for now because they are still in shock.”
Another witness, who identified himself only as Duro, said he was having fun with his friends at a joint, a few metres away from the scene, when the accident occurred.
He explained that the customs officers had chased the bus driver, forcing him to drive against traffic.
He said, “On getting to the scene of the crash, the vehicles were already on fire and many passengers were trapped inside. I saw three persons who managed to get out before the fire started.
“One of them told us that the bus driver wanted to escape from customs officers, but they chased him with their patrol van. I learnt that he drove against the traffic when the officers almost caught up with him. About 10 burnt bodies were evacuated from the two vehicles, while several others
were injured.”
A woman, Mrs. Riskat Adeleye, said, “I could not close my eyes until daybreak today (Tuesday). All of us at the scene on Monday were very confused. We tried our best to put out the fire, but it raged on. I wish I don’t remember it again.”
The spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service at the Seme Command, Taopeng Selchang, denied that customs officers chased the bus.
He said instead, some suspected robbers in a Toyota Prado, chased the bus, which led to the accident.
He said, “It is not true that any officer pursued the bus. It was a Toyota Prado that chased the vehicle and people in the jeep were shooting. Our men had to run to safety.
“It is normal in any border area that if anything evil happens, people will apportion the blame to customs. If any of the eyewitnesses have pictorial evidence that we caused the accident, let them come forward with them.”
The Unit Commander, FRSC, Badagry, Assistant Corps Commander Fatai Bakare, said the accident happened around 8.15pm.

Boko Haram now entice Youth with loans for membership

It has come to the knowledge of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram terrorists have now devised another means of recruiting unsuspecting youths into their fold.
In this clandestine dispensation, Boko Haram terrorists have resorted to providing loans to young entrepreneurs and artisans in the North East as a way of inducing them for recruitment.
The major targets of the unholy business engagement are youths in the North East, especially the butchers, traders, tailors, beauticians and other vocational entrepreneurs who could be easily enticed with such loan without paying attention to sundry inherent dangers associated with the acceptance of such goodies from this satanic group or unfamiliar source. After such loans, the beneficiaries are given the option of either joining the group or risk being killed if they fail to pay the loan as at when due, whereas the payment has been surreptitiously programmed to fail by the benefactor, the Boko Haram.
It is pertinent to state that having been effectively decimated and degraded, the remnant or surviving splinter groups of Boko Haram are desperate to recruit more people into their ranks and files as a result of sustained onslaught against them by the troops.
The Defence Headquarters hereby advises the general public, especially those in the North East, to constantly be weary and conscious of various tactics of the desperate Boko Haram.
They should be guided to avoid loan or financial assistance from non-conventional source but from conventional financial institutions such as banks, organised trade unions or institutionalised savings and loans establishments.
Acting otherwise may lead to painful and untimely death from the blood-thirsty Boko Haram terrorists.

Health Tips - Stroke

Healthy lifestyle is a key to productivity and a healthy life is a wealthy life. understanding  some health Tips that guard against  ailment known as Stroke.
What is Stroke?
Sometime around 400 B.C., Hippocrates, often called the father of western medicine, first recognized stroke, which at that time was called apoplexy.
Because doctors knew so little about the brain, for centuries the cause of the condition remained a medical mystery. Not until 1600 did doctors understand that strokes were “brain attacks” associated with blockages and bleeding in the brain.Today stroke is the Number 4 cause of death.
Stroke can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of race, sex or age.
Strokes occur because of a sudden failure of the brain to receive the oxygen and nutrients it needs to thrive.

This can happen for either of two reasons:
1.A blood vessel in the brain is blocked by a clot or plaque.
2.A blood vessel in the brain ruptures

Risk Factors You Can Control
Controlling some risk factors may be a matter of you making up your mind to change some of your everyday routines while others may require a form of medical intervention.

Hypertension or High Blood Pressure.
Blood pressure measures the pressure blood exerts on the walls of the arteries as it courses its way through the body.
The problem with high blood pressure is that it causes your heart to work harder, which can weaken blood vessels and harm major organs. A healthy reading is about 120/80.
Readings consistently above 140/90 indicate your blood pressure is in the danger zone.
You can help keep your blood pressure in check by limiting your intake of sodium (which is found in abundance in many processed foods like cold cuts, canned soup and frozen dinners), drinking alcohol in moderation or not at all, exercising regularly, and keeping your weight at a healthy
level. In addition, your doctor can prescribe medications that
can help lower your blood pressure.

High Cholesterol.
Everybody needs cholesterol, but too much cholesterol in the bloodstream can clog arteries and lead to a stroke or heart attack. In addition to having an overall cholesterol reading of less than 200, you should have an HDL (good cholesterol) reading above 40, and an LDL (bad cholesterol) reading of less than 100.
The best defense is a diet high in grains, fruits and vegetables, and low in saturated fat. As with hypertension, your doctor can prescribe medications that can help lower your cholesterol.

Diabetes.
There are two kinds of diabetes, Type I (insulin dependent) and Type 2 (non-insulin dependent). Type 2 has been known as Adult Onset Diabetes, but the alarming rise in Type 2 among very young people, brought on largely by the obesity epidemic, is making that term obsolete. People with either type of diabetes generally have one or more other risk factors for stroke: heart disease, high cholesterol including high levels of LDL, and high blood pressure, all of which increase a person’s chances of having a stroke or a heart attack.
If you are overweight — and many people with Type 2 are —a loss of as few as ten pounds can bring about a significant drop in blood glucose levels. Exercise can likewise help. A diet that qualifies as heart healthy is an excellent diet for a diabetic. While Type 1 diabetics are generally prescribed
insulin, Type 2 diabetics may be prescribed oral medication or, if these are not successful, insulin.
Did you know?
A loss of as few as ten pounds can result in a significant drop in your blood glucose level and reduce your chance for stroke.
Risk factors you can’t control
Unfortunately there are a few risk factors that you can do
nothing about.
Age.
Stroke can happen to anyone at any time, regardless of race, sex or age, but the older you are, the more prone you are to stroke. If you’re over 55, your chances of stroke double every ten years.
Gender.
This is a bit complicated. In any given year, 55,000 more women than men suffer strokes. That’s somewhat misleading because women live longer and have strokes at more advanced ages. At younger ages, however, when the pool of men and women are more equal, more men than women of the same age have strokes in any given year.
Either way, there’s nothing one can do to improve the odds based on gender alone.
Race.
African Americans, Hispanics and Asian/Pacific Islanders are all at greater risk for strokes than Caucasians.
Family Background.
If a family member has had a stroke, your risk of having one is greater.
Prior Stroke.
If you have already had a stroke, unfortunately your chances of having another are many times greater than if you had not had one. You can’t wipe that stroke off your record but you can adhere to an anti-stroke lifestyle: proper diet, regular exercise, no smoking, little or no alcohol and using any medication your doctor prescribes.
Transient Ischemic Attacks or TIAs.
TIAs are warning or mini-strokes that produce stroke-like symptoms but no lasting damage. If you have had one or more TIAs, the likelihood that you will have a stroke is tenfold greater than that of someone of your age and
gender who has not.
Heart Attack.
A heart attack is a strong indicator that you may have a stroke at some time in the future. Leading an intensely heart healthy lifestyle after your attack can improve the odds
Stroke warning signs

The following are stroke warning signs:
*Sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
*Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
*Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
*Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
*Sudden, severe headaches with no known cause (for hemorrhagic stroke)

8 things you can do to prevent a stroke -
1.  Lower blood pressure. ...
2.  Lose weight. ...
3.  Exercise more. ...
4.  Drink—in moderation. ...
5.  Take a baby aspirin. ...
6.  Treat atrial fibrillation. ...
7.  Treat diabetes. ...
8.  Quit smoking.
Identify a stroke F-A-S-T
Too many people ignore the signs of stroke because they question whether their symptoms are real. “My recommendation is, don’t wait if you have any unusual symptoms.”
“People should listen to their bodies and trust their instincts. If something is off, get professional help right away.”

Breaking :Troops Repels Rampaging Boko Haram at Kareto

Boko Haram fighters attacked Nigerian troops early on Monday, the army said, after two suspected suicide bombers were shot dead near military positions.
Army spokesman Sani Usman said in a brief emailed statement: “Boko Haram terrorists attack troops of 113 Battalion at Kareto, northern Borno state.
“The troops have been battling the insurgents since the early hours of today.”
A soldier with the regiment told AFP the troops were ordered to the town of Damasak near the border with Niger and took up position in Kareto, some 38 kilometres (24 miles) away.
“Today at about 6:30 am (0530 GMT), two suicide bombers approached us and we shot at them and they exploded,” he said.
“As soon as the explosives went off, there were barrages of heavy artillery fired by Boko Haram, who came in large numbers with heavy weapons.
“We took up position in our trenches and fired back but they kept firing RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades), which we didn’t have.
“We lost some men, I don’t know how many, and many others were injured. Some of us fled in disarray. We realised that we were outnumbered and outgunned.”
The troops withdrew to Jeyimolo village and a fighter jet was deployed to Kareto while a search was launched for the dead and missing, he added.
A local chief confirmed the attack but said further details were still sketchy.
President Muhammadu Buhari said in December the Islamist militants had been weakened to the extent they could no longer mount conventional attacks against the military.
But the latest strike again underlines the persistent threat posed by the Islamic State group affiliate, particularly in hard-to-reach rural areas.

Somalia Publicly Execute Al-shabaab Media officer

A former media officer for the Somali Islamist group al Shabaab was publicly executed by a government firing squad on Monday for ordering the death of six journalists, court officials said.
Hassan Hanafi, who arranged news conferences for the al Qaeda-linked Islamist group when the militants controlled the capital Mogadishu, admitted during his trial to personally killing one journalist in Somalia.
"Today, the court fulfils the execution of Hassan Hanafi who had killed journalists," Abdullahi Hassan, deputy judge of the court, told reporters at the scene on Monday.
A masked Hanafi was tied to a pole before government forces opened fire at an execution field at a police training camp, according to witnesses.
Since 1992 a total of 59 journalists have been killed in Somalia, according to industry body, the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Al Shabaab seeks to impose its strict version of sharia, Islamic law, in Somalia, where it frequently attacks government targets, as well as hotels and restaurants in the capital. The group was pushed out of Mogadishu by African Union peacekeeping forces in 2011 but controls many rural areas in southern Somalia.
Hanafi, 30, admitted joining al Shabaab in 2008 when he worked as a journalist for a local broadcaster. He was arrested in neighboring Kenya last year and returned to Somalia for trial.
A few days ago, a military court executed two men accused of killing a female reporter employed by the state radio, court officials said.

FIFA Rankings:Eagles Slumps to 67th position

The monthly FIFA rankings continued on
Thursday as the Nigeria national football team
dropped five places to 67th spot on the latest
rankings released by the world football
governing body.
The Super Eagles, who are three-time African
champions, are now sadly ranked 14th on the
continent to further drive home the declining
trend in football in the country.
As reflected in the April Rankings, Africa’s top
10 are Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Senegal,
Egypt, Cape Verde, Tunisia, DR Congo, Guinea
and Congo.
Cameroon, Morocco and Mali are also above
Nigeria.
Already out of contention for a place in the
2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the

put them even in a tough group as they go all
out to make amends with qualification for the
2018 World Cup in Russia.
CAF has already announced that the June
World Cup qualifiers draws will be based on
the rankings of the 20 teams in contention.
The 2018 World Cup qualifying tournament for
Africa will begin in October with 20 teams
drawn into five groups of four teams each with
the overall winners advancing to the final
tournament in Russia.

Nigeria Health Minister okay Herbal Drugs

Prof. Isaac Adewole has endorsed the use of herbal
drugs and recommended that they should be produced
under the supervision of the Nigerian Institute of
Pharmaceutical Research and Development and the
National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and
Control.
He frowned on the importation of mosquito nets and
directed that they should be produced locally in the
country.
Speaking at the presentation of “NAFDAC Guidelines
2016” on Tuesday in Abuja, the minister said billions of
“hard-earned” money was being used to import
mosquito nets and other drugs that could be produced
locally.
He said the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria could
produce mosquito nets.
Adewole directed NAFDAC to partner universities of
Zaria, Enugu, Ibadan and Jos to enhance research into
local production of drugs.
The minister said, “When we came on board, what we
were mandated to do was to develop the health
agenda for the nation. Doing so, we worked on
delivering health to Nigerian citizens. The APC
manifestoes documented a new commitment to health,
but we needed to build on this.

Panama Paper : David Cameron admits stake in offshore company

David Cameron has admitted that he had a stake in his father's offshore company which he sold for £30,000 shortly before he became Prime Minister.
Mr Cameron sought to end days of questioning about his families tax affairs by insisting that he paid income tax on the dividends in the "normal way".
"I am proud of my dad and what he did, the business he established and all the rest of it. I can't bear to see his name being dragged through the mud"
David Cameron
He insisted that he does not have "anything to hide" and said he is proud of his father's achievements, adding that he "can't bear to see his name being dragged through the mud".
It comes after the Prime Minster has faced four days of intense scrutiny over his family's financial arrangements.
The Prime Minister has previously insisted that he does not receive any current benefit from an investment in an offshore trust and will not do so in future.
However the he has now revealed that both he and his wife benefited from the trust in the past.
He told ITV News: "Because of course I did own stocks and shares in the past - quite naturally because my father was a stockbroker. I sold them all in 2010, because if I was going to become Prime Minister I didn't want anyone to say you have other agendas, vested interests. Samantha and I had a joint account.
"We owned 5000 units in Blairmore Investment Trust, which we sold in January 2010. That was worth something like £30,000.
"I paid income tax on the dividends. There was a profit on it but it was less than the capital gains tax allowance so I didn't pay capital gains tax.
"But it was subject to all the UK taxes in all the normal way. So I want to be as clear as I can about the past, present and future.
"Because frankly I don't have anything to hide. I am proud of my dad and what he did, the business he established and all the rest of it. I can't bear to see his name being dragged through the mud. For my own, I chose to take a different path from my father, grandfather and great grandfather, who were all stockbrokers, and I have nothing to hide in my arrangements. "
He also said that he had received a £300,000 inheritance from his father when he died, adding that he could not be sure if it came from offshore source.
He said he is committed to publishing his tax return: "I think the idea of publishing the information that goes in your tax return, I am very relaxed about that. It didn't happen before the last election. It did not come about.
"I don't think this should be for every MP. It is a very big change in our system. It should be for the prime minister, and the potential prime minister. I am very happy for that to happen."

Terror:Hunter Killed A Gigantic Alligator

giant alligator has been shot after terrorizing and eating cattle on a Florida farm.
The 800-pound, 15-foot creature was fatally shot and photographed.
Lee Lightsey, the owner of Outwest Farms in Okeechobee, and hunting guide, Blake Godwin, discovered the gator in their cattle ponds on the 2nd April.
They wrote on Facebook : "Lee Lightsey and I had the pleasure of doing a guided gator hunt this morning and killed the largest gator we have ever killed in the wild!! He measured out at just under 15 foot!! Congratulations to Chris and Derek on their monster!"
The hunters believed the gator was snacking on their cattle.
Godwin told Fox 13: "We also discovered the remains what we determined to be cattle in the water. We determined that he was in fact attacking our livestock as they came to drink."
Their photo of the beast was widely shared on Facebook.
One person commented saying she thought it would be nice to eat.
She said: " Yum! That meat would feed tons of homeless people if it isn't kept by the hunters. I'd guess a good 200 lbs worth.. easy."
Another person said: "New boots and good eaten."
And another lusted after the creature's skin, saying: "That's a lot of boots and handbags!"

No Going back on Subsidy-PPPRA

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) last
night said the federal government had not rescinded its decision
to modulate the pump prices of petrol across filling stations in
Nigeria, and that subsidy on petrol has also not been
reintroduced.
It said in a statement that was signed by its acting Executive
Secretary, Mrs. Iyoyo Sotonye, in Abuja that contrary to media
reports, the government would continue with its price modulation
policy which it currently uses to fix petrol prices.
Sotonye also said that accumulated funds from the government’s
over recovery on prices within the first quarter import allocation
would be used to make up any noticeable imbalances in April,
and that no fund was provided for subsidising petrol
consumption in the 2016 budget.
“Contrary to reports by a section of the Nigerian media, the
federal government has not reversed its decision to remove
subsidy on petrol more so when there is no appropriation for
subsidy in the 2016 budget,” said Sotonye.
She further stated: “The PPPRA wishes to state categorically that
what still exists is price modulation policy, through which it
considers and reviews pump price of PMS quarterly.”
According to her, “the funds from over recovery in the first
quarter (Q1) shall be duly utilised for whatever noticeable
imbalance in April 2016 in line with the price modulation
principle.”
Sotonye then noted that the agency was committed to ensuring
seamless supply and distribution of petroleum products in the
country.
